Miss Erika!

Hi! I'm Miss Erika!

As a New York State Certified Special Education Teacher with more than 20 years of experience working with young children, I have supported children with a wide range of developmental, behavioral, and learning needs. I am passionate about teaching social skills and emotional regulation because I have seen how much confidence, independence, and success children gain when they are given the right tools in a patient and supportive environment. My goal is to create a warm, playful space where children can build friendships, communicate their needs, manage big feelings, and feel successful.

Now, I get to teach YOUR child! I can't wait!

Top 10 Reasons You'll Love Us

Check Out Our Premier Program!

#1: Small Group Support!

We believe that every child is unique and learns at their own pace! We make sure to keep class sizes small in order to provide the children with more individualized attention and extra opportunities to practice skills that may be difficult to focus on in a busy preschool classroom.

#2: We value movement and play!

Our activities are designed around how young children learn best—by moving, exploring, pretending, creating, and playing with others. Games and activities are chosen with intention and with learning objectives and goals in mind.

#3: Your Child will build stronger communication skills!

Most big emotions and feelings result in what looks like a "tantrum" or other behaviors because children are still developing their ability to understand and communicate their feelings. In our program your child is supported in expressing their thoughts, needs, ideas, and feelings more clearly and in an age appropriate way.

#4: Your child will be more than ready for Kindergarten!

Your child will receive individualized instruction through our thorough assessments and curriculum. Our teachers will guide your child in the areas they need to improve, and challenge them when they’re ready for more. Beyond letters and numbers, children strengthen their listening, communication, self-control, and group-participation skills needed for school success.

#5: Keeping your child healthy and safe is our top priority!

Teaching children is a huge responsibility, and we take that responsibility seriously! Our distinct policies and procedures regarding health and safety help to keep your child in a safe, clean environment. We’re constantly cleaning, washing hands, and monitoring all activities to prevent any accidents.

#6: Your child will love our Classes!

I'll help your child come out of his/her shell, gain self confidence, and grow in all areas of development. Happy Hearts provides a nurturing space where children can learn at their own pace, make mistakes safely, and feel successful.I'm excited to help your child grow and learn!

#7: Your child will love bringing new skills, tools, and strategies home!

Happy Hearts complements a child’s regular preschool experience by providing focused practice in the social-emotional skills that help children thrive at school, at home, and in the community. Building a strong connection with families is an important part of our program. Children will have opportunities to meet and practice their skills in community settings, and families will receive simple tools and strategies they can continue using at home.

#8: Your child gets a shirt and portfolio!

At the beginning of your Childs session, he/she will receive a t-shirt. They can wear their t-shirt to our special in-house events, as well as at our free community meet ups! At the last session, you will receive a portfolio of your Childs work with us!

#9: We provide opportunities to have fun outside of the classroom!

Through guided play, children practice sharing, taking turns, joining a group, cooperating, solving problems, and being a good friend. To help those friendships grow beyond class, I will also coordinate and share free opportunities for families to meet in the community, giving children more chances to connect, practice their skills, and build meaningful relationships.

#10: Our Classes are led by an Experienced Special Education Teacher

Since beginning her career in 2004, Miss Erika has worked in a variety of early childhood and special education settings, including roles as a preschool teacher, assistant director, first-grade special education teacher, and Special Education Itinerant Teacher. These diverse experiences have allowed her to identify the most effective strategies from different classrooms and learning environments and thoughtfully incorporate them into her social skills classes.

When should I call to register my child?

It’s never too early to call, so call as soon as you even think about registering, because our classes fill up ridiculously fast!

When do classes start? Can I enroll in the middle of a session?

Our sessions run for 8 weeks. If we have spots available, you can enroll in the middle of a session. Please call us to see if we have any spots available.

How old does my child need to be to attend?

Classes are for children who are almost 3 to age 5.

Does my child have to be potty trained?

No. Children do not need to be potty trained, however if the child is not yet potty trained, we ask that you wait in the waiting room during the duration of the session incase they need to be changed.

How do I know if my child would benefit from this class?

Sometimes a child does not need formal services-but a parent's heart still says they could use a little extra support.

Happy Hearts may be a wonderful fit if your child is working on sharing, following directions, handling big feelings, joining play, communicating with others, building confidence, or becoming more comfortable in a group.

Your child does not need a diagnosis. They simply need a little extra support in a safe place to learn, practice, play, and grow at their own pace, outside of home and the regular Preschool classroom.

What will my child actually do during the 60 min session?

Each class is thoughtfully designed to feel fun and playful while building meaningful skills.

Children will participate in group meeting time, music and movement, guided activities, teacher-supported play, and opportunities to interact with peers.

We will also naturally incorporate early learning skills such as pre-reading, pre-writing, early math, listening, and following directions and routines.

To your child it will feel like play. But behind every activity, there will be purpose. Think of it as a tutoring session for preschoolers!

How is this different from Preschool, daycare, or a regular playgroup?

Happy Hearts is more than a place for children to play near one another.

Each activity is intentionally planned to help children practice communication, friendship skills, cooperation, emotional regulation, problem solving, and school readiness.

The class is led by a NYS-certified Special Education Teacher with more than 20 years of experience working in a variety of classrooms and learning environments.

Your child will receive gentle guidance and support during the moments when real learning happens-waiting for a turn, asking to join, solving a problem, expressing a feeling, or trying again.

What if my chid is shy, very active, slow to warm up, or has difficulty separating?

That is exactly why small supportive groups can be so helpful. Your child will never be expected to fit into one mold. Some children jump right in, while others need time to observe, feel safe, and build trust. Happy Hearts is designed to meet children where they are. We will use predictable routines, encouragement, movement, play, and individualized support to help each child feel successful.

How will these skills help my child outside of class?

The skills practiced at Happy Hearts are the same skills children use during preschool, kindergarten, playdates sports, family gatherings, and everyday routines.

Children will work on expressing their needs, managing frustration, listening, taking turns, making friends, solving problems, and participating in a group.

Families will also receive simple ideas and language they can use at home so the learning does not stop when class ends.

When children fell understood, capable, and connected, they are better prepared to learn- and their confidence and grow far beyond the classroom.
